Institute of English Philology

We offer a rich and diverse course programme ranging from the Anglo-Saxon origins of the English language and literature right through to courses on present day literatures and cultures in English and all aspects of modern linguistics and teaching of English as a foreign language. We are part of the Department of English and American Studies, and work closely with our colleagues at the Amerika-Institut and the Rachel Carson Center.

The institute is also home to LMU’s Languages Center and the Shakespeare Research Library, which is the only library of its kind in Europe.
