Human-Wildlife Conflicts in China

Can you imagine how close you are to wild animals?

With the expansion of the human footprint, interactions between wild animals and humans are becoming more and more frequent. Negative forms of these interactions turn into human-wildlife conflicts (HWC), which can greatly influence human health, safety, and welfare. In return, human responses to these conflicts, such as lethal control programs, have become one of the most significant threats to wildlife. Thus, HWCs are a complex and urgent issue that needs to be solved.

This project is a collaboration between Tongji University, Shanghai, China, the Rachel Carson Center for Environment and Society at LMU Munich, Germany, and the Nationalpark Bayerischer Wald, Germany, funded by the Ministry of Science and Technology.

Principal investigators of the project are: Mengxi Kou (RCC), Christof Mauch (RCC), Marco Heurich (Nationalpark Bayerischer Wald and Freiburg University) and Hannes König (Martin-Luther-Universität Halle-Wittenberg)
