Biography

Kiran Klaus Patel has been a professor in the Department of Modern and Contemporary History at LMU since the winter semester 2019–2020 and holds the Chair of Modern and Contemporary History. He is also the director of Project House Europe.

Previously, he held professorships at Maastricht University (2011–2019) and the European University Institute in Florence (2007–2011), as well as a junior professorship at Humboldt University in Berlin (2002–2007). Visiting professorships and fellowships have taken him to institutions including the Free University of Berlin, Harvard University, the London School of Economics, the University of Oxford, and the École des hautes études en sciences sociales in Paris. In his research and teaching, he has addressed a wide range of topics in European and US history, with a particular focus on comparative, transnational, and global approaches.
